The Inspiration

The Yapo Computer Learning Center was named after Michael Yapo. Mr. Yapo served as treasurer of Walton Park Manor for 15 years. He loved his family and the diverse community he served. He was always concerned in ways to enrich the community.

Mr. Yapo realized how computers would have an important role in our lives and was always curious how computers worked and how to learn himself. With that, Mr. Yapo insisted that all of the Walton Park Manor board members take computer classes, including himself. He would type with one finger, one key at a time but he was determined to learn how to use the computer.

Sadly, September of 1992, Mr. Yapo passed away but today, his spirit is with us.

Our Purpose

In the spirit of Mr. Yapo's vision, the center was created as a place where children, teens, adults and senior citizens of our community would have access to the resources and technology of the future that may have otherwise been out of their reach.

It gives them the opportunity to explore career and educational options and pursue those options in a structured, non-threatening environment in their own backyard.

The Yapo Computer Learning Center (Yapo CLC) represents a comprehensive, integrated, full service community, educational and economic development center where the desire to learn and the passion for knowledge is recognized, approached and nurtured one person at a time.
